Going to have to try bourbon and beans. That should be an explosive combination.

Microsoft Windows The latest S**t

The other day I downloaded the latest ISO of MS Windows 11, only to find that they have removed the online account bypass oobe\bypassnro. Luckly they still had start ms-cxh:localonly in the one that I downloaded, but according to techradar various news outlets, MS are removing all such bypasses. A lot of PC repair technicians are going to be even more pissed at that.

So not only are you paying hard earned cash for a computer with an operating system that requires internet access to set up, but MS are trying to screw everyone over (yet again) by forcing you to have a Microsoft account, and you've got to love the response that they gave for why they are doing it.

I cannot wait until steam get gaming to work correctly on Linux, and hardware vendors supplying drivers, as it will be bye, bye MS Windows.
If you've dug yourself into a hole. Just keep digging. You're bound to come out the other side eventually.

I think if you download RUFUS and burn make your iso. There are 5 or 6 options you can alter in the .iso to bypass all the crap.

It worked for me.
Running a Pc that just aint. Faster nough. I7-4Ghz, 32Gb Ram, 4Gb Nvidia, 2 x 1Tb SSD's, 2 x 24" LCD's

RETRO everything!

Well, the gaming side of things seem to be very good these days.
Hardware vendors not so much, or?

I will take the plunch into Linux soon, have to get the old desktop out of the basement. My Beelink Ser5 will only be usefull to do the taxes and the occational build for windows.

I am digging into FOSS software deeply atm that is also Linux based and so far loving it.

Krita, Gimp, Scribus and Inkscape are covering all my needs these days. Still looking for a decent DAW but the rest seems to be fine.

That reminds me. I'll have to check if creating an autounattend.xml  will still work.

I think those that require a licence would be a lot better than the open source offerings. Though I've seen it mentioned that one of the Windows on Linux applications can run Fl Studio.

Is there a reason why needing a Microsoft account is problematic?

Personally I do prefer local accounts without the MS account dependency but I wouldn't consider it a showstopper unless there's something sinister I've yet to learn about.

I used MacOS almost exclusively these days and I need an AppleID for that so... 🤷

Dabzy

While having to have an account with whatever really doesnt bother me mostly, it's par of the course.

What gets my goat is "Oh, you've logged in have you, using the details you provided, like, your customer number, your username and -password, you've also inputted the correct characters in the drop down list of your secret pass phrase... But... Sorry mate, your gonna have to get your phone and type in the 6 digits we will send you, and then after that, your gonna have to validate your account by going to your email account and getting a code from that as well"

Like, I don't mind it once in a while... But for gods sake, sometimes it's every time you bloody log-in to something, like paypal!

And why does companies like UberEats or whatever need the same... It's gone from being a general security check to a fad!

And I'll be honest, I'm sick and tired of it... Accounts I don't mind, accessing them and having to have my phone... Grinds me, and sometimes I just say sod it and not bother.

The issue here is that Microsoft are forcing you to have a Microsoft account, before you can even use the computer. Some people may not want a Microsoft account, and you never know what MS are up to. And I can bet you that if Linux gets a big share of the desktop PC market, Microsoft will use their dominance to pressure manufactures to add "new propitiatory" hardware security solutions to lock open source operating systems out. And I don't ever recall having being forced to use my AppleID during the macOS setup to actually use my iMac. They actually give you the option to sign in or up for one after the installation, and it's not a requirement unless you want to use Apple's App Store or other Apple services.

Well, Yes there is an issue. Why do i need an account just to install and use it. I often park up somewhere nice and do a spot of programming, Gaming. I dont always have an internet connection.

Microsoft need to be very careful here!!

Its just a matter of time when Linux will run .exe's eaisly and efficiently.

Bye! Bye! Microsoft! :-X

Dare i say it. Not many use Mac because of apple ID's also  :-X

A good example is i paid nearly £500 pound for some language software. Ie to learn. I have  a box of dvd's and manual etc..
I can no longer use it as you need to go online and log into there server. Which isnt there now!! WTF It collects dust now. I might as well bin it. But! I paid £500 for it! >:(

Nice didn't know you could do this  ;)

I am tired of all this nonsense as well. Tired of subscriptions, tired of unwanted AI crap, the list goes on and on. IMO it's just another data grab of a greedy cooperation. I simply don't want to play their game anymore. The more accounts you run somewhere, the more spam mail you get. Since this decade, the internet is broken beyond repair.

Yesterday I grabbed my old desktop pc. 16gb ram, 1 TB ssd. NVIDIA GeForce 1050ti with a Ryzen 3400 CPU. More than plenty enough for my needs. And great enough for latest Linux Mint. Runs steam just fine.

FOSS only it is now. Switched back to Inkscape and Gimp, libreoffice was my goto anyway.

My printer has drivers for it. Switched browser as well (brave).

The only thing I need to find is a good DAW. But so far so good.

My current MINI pc with Win11 is going to my wife as her win10 notebook is now considered ,,dangerous".

Other than the ones that require a licence, then there is only LMMS that is FOSS that I know of.
If you've got FL Studio, then you can actually get that to run it something like Bottles, and Wine if it's set up correctly.

Linux Mint now uses PipeWire for audio, video and MIDI connections. You can use the GUI application QPWGraph to set these up.
You will find these in the Linux Mint repo.
If you've dug yourself into a hole. Just keep digging. You're bound to come out the other side eventually.

I actually have a full license of Fl Studio. Thanks will try your suggestion. So much to learn.

Only thing I haven't figured out with it yet is PiperWire MIDI. Complains about the driver not being enabled. And until I can get a MIDI-to-USB adaptor, I cannot test it out.
