Title: Thought I'd give Kubuntu 25.04 a try
Post by: Jackdaw on Jun 11, 2025, 09:51 AM
It's been awhile since I've used any Canonical operating systems, so installed Kubuntu 25.04 on my main laptop. Looked as though it was working okay. That was until it started to freeze for 30 seconds or so, or I had to leave the machine for a bit and came back to a world of visual glitches on waking up the machine. Looks like I'll be going back to LinuxMint.

And google chrome crashes without warning.

Hi!
I recommend you give "Debian" a try; you won't regret it.

The kernel doesn't support my hardware, so not an option.

Around 18 months old. And when I got it. I had to do some time consuming workarounds, until they added a kernel that was high enough with the necessary drivers.

The reason why the latest Canonical stuff is not working too well. Is that they've been pushing Wayland before it was ready. It has issues with nVidia graphics cards. Throw in an AMD CPU and a discrete nVidia GPU, and you have more issues.

My old AMD CPU with Vega 10 works no problems.

Hello,
Yes, unfortunately, Linux has this problem with new hardware: until it's properly implemented in the kernel, you'll have problems or simply won't work at all.
Linux Mint is a great option and chosen by many. If you don't have any problems, stick with it.
